Product Details

Awesome retro yellow t-shirt features the album cover art from 'Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!', the first album by New Wave musicians DEVO, best known for their 1980 hit "Whip It". Classified as punk, art rock and post-punk, DEVO is known for their New Wave sound which, along with Gary Numan, Peter Gabriel, and The B-52's, ushered in the synth pop sound of the 1980s. 'Are We Not Men' was ranked #447 by Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The album's cover art originally depicted the head of golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez in his trademark Panama hat, superimposed over a golf ball. Despite clearing the art with Rodriguez, due to copyright reasons, an artist's conception of a combination of the facial features of Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford was placed on the cover instead. When the album came out, a confused Rodriguez apparently commented 'Hey, this doesn't look like me.' The album title references Kenton's horror film based on H. G. Wells' novel 'The Island of Dr Moreau' where a mad scientist performs operations on wild beasts. When the beasts acted inappropriately, Dr. Moreau would crack his whip and ask 'What is the law?', to which the response was 'Not to eat meat, that is the law. Are we not men?' Grab this awesome shirt and show your appreciation of DEVO's great music, including 'New Traditionalists' and 'Freedom of Choice' with this cool shirt.
